Holy Confidence: Becoming the Woman God Says You Already Are

Published on 30 September 2025 at 08:00

Have you ever stood in front of the mirror, sighing at what you saw staring back? Maybe you’ve thought, I’ll finally feel confident when I lose the weight… when I land that job… when I’m married… when people finally see my worth. If we’re honest, most of us women, regardless of our age, culture, or season of life, have struggled with confidence. The world tells us that confidence is something we have to earn, achieve, or fake.

But God tells us something far more beautiful: in Christ, you already are who He says you are. Confidence rooted in Him is not about who we might become someday. It’s about walking boldly as the woman He has already declared us to be. That’s what I call holy confidence.

Holy confidence doesn’t puff us up or make us arrogant. It humbles us. It frees us from the exhausting cycle of proving ourselves because our identity is already secure in the hands of the One who made us.

Let’s walk together through what holy confidence really means, how to cultivate it, and how to live it out daily as the daughters of the King.

1. The World’s Confidence vs. God’s Confidence

The world equates confidence with self-reliance. It tells us:

  • Look inside yourself. Believe in yourself. Trust yourself.

  • If you hustle hard enough, you’ll finally measure up.

  • If you look perfect, act perfect, or achieve enough, then you’ll be worthy of love and respect.

But this is fragile confidence. It cracks the moment life doesn’t go as planned, or when others criticize, reject, or misunderstand us.

God offers us something entirely different. Scripture says,

“Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.” (2 Corinthians 3:4–5)

Holy confidence is not self-confidence. It’s God-confidence. It’s resting in the truth that our worth doesn’t change based on what we do or how others see us. It is rooted in the unshakable love of the Father, the finished work of Jesus, and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.

As Charles Spurgeon once said:

“Our confidence is not in what we have done, nor in what we are, but entirely in what Christ is and has done.”

When we grasp this, our entire posture toward life shifts. We no longer walk with our heads hung low or our hearts bound by insecurity. We walk with dignity and strength because we know Whose we are.

2. Who God Says You Already Are

So, who does God say you are? Let’s allow His Word, not the world’s lies, to answer:

  • You are chosen.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession…” (1 Peter 2:9)

  • You are loved with an everlasting love.
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

  • You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)

  • You are redeemed.
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” (Ephesians 1:7)

  • You are more than a conqueror.
“In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

  • You are God’s masterpiece.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10, NLT)

Do you notice a pattern here? Confidence is not about what you can become one day. It’s about living out what you already are in Christ.

3. Why Women Struggle with Confidence

Even with these truths, many of us still wrestle with insecurity. Why?

  • Comparison. We scroll social media and measure our worth against someone else’s highlight reel.

  • Past wounds. Words spoken over us, rejections, or failures can linger and whisper, You’re not enough.

  • Perfectionism. We feel like we must earn love through performance.

  • Cultural pressures. Beauty standards, career success, or societal roles can define us if we let them.

But the enemy loves to use these struggles to keep us small. He knows that a woman who is secure in her identity in Christ is powerful.

As Christian author and speaker Christine Caine says:

“When a woman understands her identity in Christ, she is unstoppable. The devil cannot defeat a woman who knows who she is and Whose she is.”

Holy confidence silences the lies of the enemy by standing firmly on God’s Word.

4. The Source of Holy Confidence: Christ in You

We can’t manufacture holy confidence. It’s not about affirmations in the mirror or pretending we’re stronger than we feel. It’s about abiding in Christ.

Paul explains,

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

This verse doesn’t mean we can do anything we want. It means that whatever God calls us to, He equips us for. Our confidence is not in our capability but in His faithfulness.

When we anchor our confidence in Christ, even our weaknesses become opportunities for His power to shine.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

This is liberating. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have it all together. You simply need to rest in the One who is perfect and who holds you together.

5. Cultivating Holy Confidence in Everyday Life

How do we move from knowing these truths to living them? Here are some practical ways:

a) Anchor Yourself in God’s Word Daily

Confidence grows as we rehearse truth. Open your Bible and declare God’s promises over yourself. Write verses on sticky notes. Memorize them. Let His Word drown out the lies.

b) Pray Bold Prayers

Prayer is not just a wish list. It’s communion with the Father who delights in you. Talk to Him honestly. Ask Him for courage. Thank Him for who He has made you to be.

c) Surround Yourself with Godly Women

Confidence grows in community. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Find women who speak life, truth, and encouragement into you.

d) Step Out in Faith

Confidence grows through action. Sometimes you won’t feel ready, but obedience builds confidence. Whether it’s speaking up in a meeting, starting a ministry, or simply saying “yes” to God’s nudge, step forward in faith.

e) Worship Through Insecurity

When insecurity rises, turn it into worship. Shift your eyes from yourself to the greatness of God. Worship reminds us of His strength and our secure place in Him.

6. Stories of Holy Confidence in Scripture

Throughout the Bible, we see women who embodied holy confidence, not in themselves, but in God:

  • Esther. A young woman who risked her life to save her people, saying, “If I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16).

  • Deborah. A judge and prophetess who led Israel with courage because her confidence was in God’s Word.

  • Mary, the mother of Jesus. A humble teenager who said “yes” to God’s plan, declaring, “I am the Lord’s servant” (Luke 1:38).

  • The Samaritan woman. Once ashamed, she became a bold evangelist after encountering Jesus (John 4).

Each of these women shows us that holy confidence isn’t about status, beauty, or background. It’s about trusting God and walking in obedience.

7. Living as the Woman God Says You Already Are

Friend, you don’t need to strive to become worthy of love. You don’t need to wait until you “fix” yourself to be used by God. You already are chosen. Already loved. Already redeemed. Already equipped.

As A.W. Tozer once wrote:

“Nothing can change the fact that we are dearly loved by God, and when we rest in that love, fear loses its grip.”

Living with holy confidence looks like:

  • Walking into the room with kindness, not arrogance.

  • Serving others without fear of being overlooked.

  • Saying “no” when God leads you to, without guilt.

  • Saying “yes” to opportunities even when you feel inadequate.

  • Loving yourself as God loves you, flaws and all.

Holy confidence is radiant. It shines in a woman’s eyes, not because she thinks she’s perfect, but because she knows her life is hidden in Christ.

Reflection Questions

  1. What voices or lies have you been listening to that undermine your confidence in Christ?

  2. Which Scripture from this blog resonated most deeply with you? How can you begin to memorize or meditate on it?

  3. Can you recall a moment when God asked you to step out in faith even when you felt inadequate? How did He show His strength?

  4. Who are the women in your life who encourage you to walk in holy confidence? How can you surround yourself with more of that kind of community?

  5. What is one small step you can take this week to live as the woman God already says you are?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for reminding me that my confidence does not come from my achievements, appearance, or abilities, but from You alone. Thank You that in Christ I am chosen, loved, redeemed, and empowered. Help me to silence the lies of insecurity and comparison and to rest in Your truth. Give me courage to walk boldly in obedience, knowing that You go before me and within me. Make me a woman of holy confidence - humble, radiant, and secure in Your love. May my life point others back to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
