Have you ever had one of those seasons where you just didn’t feel strong enough?
Not strong enough to keep going.
Not strong enough to make the next decision.
Not strong enough to trust what you thought you heard God say.
If you’ve ever felt unsure, overwhelmed, or underqualified, you're not alone. And you’re in the perfect place for God's strength to show up.
I recently walked through a season like this, and as hard as it was, I came out the other side with a deeper understanding of God’s heart for us when we feel weak and uncertain.
Let me tell you a little about it.
When I Didn’t Feel Strong Enough
I was going through a very difficult time at work. My boss, let’s just say, wasn’t the most encouraging leader. There were several things that made that season hard, but one of the worst moments was when he verbally attacked me for having a prayer by my desk. But still, that moment felt like a personal attack on my faith, my peace, and even my identity.
I remember sitting there afterward, feeling like I was being constricted, suffocated by the weight of stress, disappointment, and confusion. I cried out to the Lord:
“God, I need a way out… But if You want me to stay, I will. Just let me know.”
I started applying to jobs. There was one in particular that I was really excited about. I stayed in touch with the company for weeks, but nothing seemed to be moving. I wasn’t sure if they still needed to hire someone or if I just wasn’t the right person.

So, I kept praying.
Asking for confirmation.
Wondering if the small nudges I felt were really from God or if it was just wishful thinking… or worse, a trick of the enemy.
About a month after my interview, I was asked me to come in again. The morning of the interview, I prayed a very specific prayer:
“Lord, if this is where You want me to be, let her tell me today that she plans to offer me the job.”
At the end of the interview, she said, “I’ll contact you next week with an offer.” Not maybe. Not if. When. I was excited. Hopeful. Expectant.
But Monday came - no call.
Tuesday - nothing.
Wednesday - silence.
By Thursday, I was starting to doubt again.
That evening, my husband, my son, and I were reading the Bible together. We just so happened to be in Judges 6 - the story of Gideon. It was my turn to read, and as the words poured out of my mouth, I realized God was speaking directly to me.

Gideon: The Weak One God Called "Mighty"
Gideon didn’t feel strong either. He questioned God, doubted himself, and asked for signs - multiple times.
“Go in the strength you have,” God told him. (Judges 6:14)
Not in the strength you wish you had. Not in someone else's strength. In your strength - the little bit you feel like you have left. And then He promised:
“I will be with you.” (Judges 6:16)
Gideon, still unsure, asked for another sign. Then another. I laughed as I read it, because I had done the exact same thing. Over and over, I had asked God to confirm His will.
But here’s what got me:
“Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request.” (Judges 6:39)
And God did so that night. (v. 40)
It hit me like a wave: God wasn’t angry with Gideon. And He wasn’t angry with me either.
In that moment, I felt the Holy Spirit whisper:
“I’m not frustrated with you for asking for confirmation. I’m your Father. I want you to learn My voice. I will be patient with you. You are my daughter, and I love you more than anything. Until you are confident, I will keep repeating Myself. I want you to walk with Me - not in fear, but in trust.”
The Call That Came
That Friday morning, the call finally came and so did the offer. I accepted with peace in my heart.
Since then, there have been moments where I still feel unqualified and overwhelmed. But God’s power has shown up for me every single time. He has surrounded me with encouraging coworkers and an amazing, supportive boss. He opened a door in His perfect timing, not mine.
And every time I feel like I’m not strong enough, I hear Him remind me:
“Go in the strength you have. I will be with you.”

Encouragement & Application
You don’t have to wait until you feel strong.
God isn’t waiting for you to have it all together before He steps in.
He’s not disappointed in your questions.
He’s not weary of your weakness.
He delights in you. He walks beside you. And He’s mighty in you - even when you don’t feel mighty yourself.
Reflection Questions
-
What area of your life are you feeling too weak to face?
-
Have you been afraid to ask God for confirmation because you don’t want to “bother” Him?
-
What would it look like for you to “go in the strength you have” today?
Closing Prayer
Father,
Thank You for being strong when I am weak. Thank You for Your patience when I question and doubt. Help me to trust Your voice, even when I can’t see what’s ahead. Teach me that it’s okay to ask for confirmation, and remind me that You are not annoyed or frustrated with me—but that You love me like a good, kind Father. I give You my fears, my insecurities, and my limitations, and I ask You to be my strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
